Fireworks and Tinnitus

I spent the 4th home with ear plugs! Fireworks and tinnitus do not mix well together. I think the 4th of July is the loudest day of the year and the most harmful for our ears. I hope everyone was aware and took precautions to protect your ears.

The visual was beautiful anyway! I hope everyone had a nice Independence Day, including independence from the noise!

Happy 5th of July!

Tinnitus Support Groups

Please check out where your tinnitus support group is in your area.

Go to the ATA.Org website and put in your zip code or town.  I found it very beneficial to join these groups and share our experiences, and also discuss other ideas to deal the Noise of tinnitus.

There are many tools available to help ignore the noise and not give it the power that it wants. It is a matter of training our brain as we do with many other obstacles in our lives. It doesn't happen overnight but little by little, everyday, we can turn our focus off the noise and focus on the things that bring us joy. Keeping busy is key to a noiseless day!

Sinus Infection and Tinnitus

I definitely see the increase in noise in my ear as a result of a sinus infection! I think the meds that I am taking are  making it worse...not sure, or maybe since my ear is clogged, the noise seems louder? Regardless, the sound is relentless!
Nature and soft breeze of the ocean are the somewhat soothing!

Tinnitus in Italy

Just wanted to give a quick update. My journey with tinnitus is now in Italy! Maybe the stress of finally getting here when I was told trip was cancelled and then back on. Plus all the changes in my life within the last couple of months. Lots of emotional ups and downs with relationships coming and going. A true test of courage and strength. Happiness, sadness. Crazy how all the emotions have such a strong effect on tinnitus.

I have also been out of my healthy routine... Missing yoga, meditation... Don't get me wrong, I am very blessed to have had the opportunity to see a part of the world I have never been to. Amazing experience. Although I noticed the loudness in my ear is more profound! Diet could be part of it.

I am looking forward to returning home. Hopefully there will be a difference!

It's really important to keep a journal of  what makes a difference! Not sure about pasta and pizza.

Going to try to turn off the music now! Good night angels!

Good morning,

Woke up with my ear screeching, Very strange since I have been vigilant of my diet. My stress has level has been high, so I am positive that is the reason for my ear raging! My next question, How do I deal with it? GET RID OF THE STRESS, first. That begins without trying to make every one in my life happy when I know that is impossible!

I just heard about the Paleo Diet. It is very interesting as it is a plan that ONLY has the nutritional approach that works with your genetics to help you stay lean, strong and energetic. It allows you to eat fruits, vegetables and lean proteins. Avoids dairy, grains, processed foods and sugars. Also legumes, starches and alcohol ( one of the biggest culprits that makes tinnitus worse).

This diet also seems to help you sleep better! That's a major plus for those of us who struggle.

How wonderful that there are so many things to experiment with and hopefully find what works for you!

Keep the information coming!

Tornados in Florida today...

Recently, I met someone who has had tinnitus for several years. He said he got it from a loud noise. He also shared with me that changing his diet has substantially reduced the loudness in his ear. He eats "Plant Food". Basically no meat, chicken or fish. Lots of veggies, eggs, fruit, grains and cheese. No caffiene or alcohol.

I think I will try it! If anyone has a special diet or method of reducing the noise, please share? It is so important to have support and to know we are not alone.

I really enjoy writing about my journey with tinnitus. It is very therapeutic for me to share my experiences, feelings and thoughts with others.

The angels are singing...

Reminder of Tinnitus Awareness Week

Tinnitus Awareness Week is May 19-25. The ATA's resource center for TAW:

http://www.ata.org/taw2013.

Please check it out.

This past weekend was very stressful for me, Mother's Day became a day filled with emotions and anxiety. I noticed that my tinnitus got really loud and moved into the other ear! OMG, I panicked. I knew I had to de-stress with meditation, walk on the beach and pray for silence. I drank lots of water all day; thankfully it calmed down. Today it is a whisper. I am so thankful for God, yoga and good nutrients. Tinnitus definitely elevates when our emotions take over. I am grateful for the awareness and having tools in my box to help me when these situations occur.

Pain is inevitable, misery is optional.

Please get as much information as you can and share it with all of us suffering from this awful NOISE!

:)

Stress and Tinnitus

Good morning,

I notice today that my Tinnitus is louder. I realize that I have had some stress in the past two days and that the noise in my ear has intensified significantly.

I took a walk on the beach this morning, hoping that  the sound of the ocean would bring some serenity and quietness. I am looking forward to spending today being gentle with myself and surrendering all the things I cannot control. God is in control anyway!

Please remember that Tinnitus Awareness Week is May 19-25.

Is Tinnitus a side effect of Meniere's Disease?

Here is the link for Kristin. Kristin Chenoweth has come out in the past few days and noted that she has Meniere's Disease. One of the most common side effects of Meniere's is Tinnitus.

Kristin is thinking maybe that it had something to do with an accident when she fell and hit her head. Tinnitus is caused by noise exposure, but a little known fact is that the second leading cause of tinnitus is head and neck injuries which could be contributing to her condition.

I hope this information is helpful. Today my noise is very minimal. I am grateful just for today to be able to share my experience, strength and hope!

Peace, love and joy,

Denise

Boston Marathon and tinnitus

Boston Marathon and tinnitus

Hi,

It's been a week since the bombings, and thankfully we now know that all of the victims who were taken to the hospital are like to survive but that many of them have a long road of recovery ahead of them for both their visible and invisible injuries, like tinnitus. We know abut the victims that were taken to the hospital, but it's very possible that there were people exposed to the blast who didn't experience any immediate physical injuries but who may have tinnitus.

There are some tips for managing tinnitus here: http://www./ata/for-patients/tips.

Treatment information: http://www.ata.org/for-patients/treatment.

I sincerely hope this information is informative everyone suffering from tinnitus.

Sincerely,

Denise

Peace calms Tinnitus!

Good morning,

My heart goes out to everyone in Boston today...why do we need these reminders of how precious life is. My tinnitus has been off the charts lately but a funny thing happened as I was praying for peace in our world before I went to bed last night, the noise got softer in my ear. An amazing sense of gratitude for my life actually calmed my tinnitus. I wasn't thinking about it. My thoughts were filled with awareness of  how important it is to treat each moment with love, tenderness, kindness, selflessness.  How true it is when we get out of self, our lives become better, the symptoms of our health and depression seem to diminish as we surrender people, places and things to God

The stress lightens up when we pray and let go of our resentments for tinnitus, or for whatever occupies space in our heads. Not easy, but simple!

I am truly grateful for the love and kindness that surrounds me. I am grateful for being able to share my thoughts and my journey with all of you. If I stuff them, they will come out sideways!

Today I am having a session in cranial sacral therapy. It was a suggestion made to me from someone who suffers from tinnitus and has had success in doing it. I will keep you posted!

I wish you all a blessed day filled with peace, love and joy!

Mindfullness Meditation

I was introduced to mindfullness meditation tonight... very powerful in using your breathe to reduce the pain of tinnitus, body pain and STRESS. Of course, I didn't leave without any of it but felt so much encouragement to continue to focus on not giving power to to those conditions..Our thoughts are  just thoughts, the less time we spend thinking about tinnitus, or any of our fears, pain, problems in the world, we become healthier.  It is so important to be positive and surround ourselves with positive people. More importantly, giving back is where the healing begins....

I am excited to do this meditation again. Practice, practice, practice....

Yoga and Tinnitus

Many might think that being in a quiet yoga room would actually make our tinnitus louder. I have been doing yoga since my knee replacement in July (of course after rehab) and not only has the yoga helped my knee stretch and be stronger, it quiets my ear as I am so focused on my intentions of having peace and serenity and recovery in the rest of my body!

As with everything, something that works for one person might not work the same for another,  but I thought I would share how it has become very important part of my everyday routine. I enjoy the meditations and the music. They help to empower myself and my mind. It gives me courage and strength and control over all my conditions!

Little by little I am changing my diet...testing things that I like to eat and drink and how they affect the sound in my ear.. I am cutting down on caffeine, red wine so far!  Not ready to give it all up at once! LOL Drinking lots of water also helps.

The real key for me is to be stress free. Not always easy, but possible. It depends on you!

Laughter is a wonderful remedy...I have done laughing meditation. It's contagious!!! TRY IT...

We are all on this journey together....One day at a time.

Have a wonderful evening!

Just want to thank wonderful Baldylocks for helping me with my blog...Having a great friend who is kind and compassionate is so helpful in overcoming this fight with tinnitus. As I have said before, it is really important to not have stress. Peace and serenity definitely keep the noise down. I am very grateful for my friendships....its really cool to be able to check-in and share how you are feeling with someone who can relate.

Today was a beautiful day! Lots of serenity....

Helpful reading for living a joyful life with tinnitus.

There are many inspirational books out there and one that I found very helpful to me was The Seat of The Soul..Gary Zukav. We are constantly searching and longing for peace and serenity . When I stopped trying all of the "treatments, pills and realized I had to stop looking outside and look inside for the answers was when I was able to overcome many of the fears of having tinnitus....As with many obstacles in our lives, if we can finally PAUSE and Be Still and listen to our inner spirit, we do get answers. Of course, it takes a strong willingness and being at our wits end to finally surrender to search and hopefully find what others have done to make peaceful, joyfull, compassionate lives for themselves.

There are many books,  e-books, videos, etc. that are available.   Paul Tobey,  a Canadian pianist who suffered from Tinnitus and now is living a beautiful, fruitful life helping others in their battle with Tinnitus. His meditation was one thing that brought me peace...We are not limited to the amount of support that is out there for us.

Just wanted to share another experience that helps me get through it, one day at a time...

Have a peaceful night's sleep...Will check in tomorrow..

It really helps to journal. Great therapy!

Tinnitus and the Ocean!

It's Sunday, my favorite day of the week. Today is cloudy but the Son is shining through.

Since I live on the beach, I am blessed with the sound of the ocean. The noise in my ear is loud today...but between my angels and the ocean, I will overcome the loudness and win another battle.

There is peace and serenity in knowing I can control the tinnitus and it can't control me!

I am very grateful for the tools that God has given me. When I surrender, He gives me strength, hope and courage to take away the power that tinnitus wants.

Off to walk the beach and enjoy the beauty of the majestic ocean!

Enjoy your day and know you are all in my thoughts and prayers....keep the faith, and please reach out for support!

Peace and Blessings,

Denise

How and when my Tinnitus journey began!

It's been a few days since I have posted...actually have tried and somehow lost the blog....Still Learning..LOL

Today and for the past few days the noise has been extremely loud...As much as I have this condition pretty well managed, sometimes we get into a battle and I thank God for the courage and strength He gives me, Then I can win the battle!

This journey of mine started more than eight years ago after a hip replacement surgery. Could have been from medications, anesthesia, etc.  My ear started making strange sounds, hissing, buzzing, ringing all different frequencies. I went to see my GP and he said I had a sinus infection and put me on medication. Two weeks later, there was no sinus infection but the noise was 24/7 and loud. I couldn't sleep, couldn't focus and was becoming somewhat Freaked Out...I went to see my ear doctor and after a multitude of tests was told I had Tinnitus. What in the world is Tinnitus? Really a condition that has no cure? Can anyone relate??? OMG, I thought my life was over. How could I ever live with this horrific noise for the rest of my life?I didn't want to live. Was going insane to the point of despair and just wanting to check out. I took every pill on the market, acupuncture, electric stimulation...nothing helped

I started to research on the internet and found The American Tinnitus Association! It saved my life. The site is filled with information that helped me deal with it. The group support was tremendous in knowing I was not alone.

I realized I had to take charge of Tinnitus and not give it the power it wanted from me. I meditated, changed my thought process and was determined to not let it take control of my life. The one important thing I started with was keeping busy, changing my diet and turning  the sound into angels singing in my ear.  Meditation, music and white noise machines help at bedtime....

The ATA has come a long way in it's research and there are new studies and remedies. No cure yet, but better solutions and devices.

It is my desire to continue to share information that I receive from them and hopefully those of you who have tinnitus will share your experience, strength and hope with me. We are in this together and we will win the war of Tinnitus.

I am praying for all of us and feel truly blessed. Because of Tinnitus, I have met the most wonderful, caring people. Life is all about relationships however they come to us!

Thank you for your support,

Sincerely,

Denise Capriati

Welcome

Hello, I've never done this before. I'm a bit nervous but have a burning desire to share my life with tinnitus.  My hope is that by sharing my own personal experience I can help others who are on this same journey to find peace,  serenity and a way of coping with this  extremely misunderstood condition.

This is a short video that I made with the help of The American Tinnitus Association.

I hope you find it encouraging. You are not alone. Together, with the A.T.A., we are committed to ongoing research in finding a cure.

Please join me as I continuously gather information or just share my story. I would like to invite you to share your own experiences here.

Thank you. I look forward to our path of HOPE!
